How we check

Our guides are only worth what the figures in them are worth, so here is exactly how they are put together.

Every figure comes from a source

Opening hours, ticket prices, bus fares, thresholds and rules are taken from the body that sets them: the tourist office, the town hall, the operator, the ministry. Each guide carries a sources list at the back, and the figures carry the month they were checked.

Dates, not promises

Things change. A castle changes its winter hours, a road is resurfaced, a threshold is raised in a new budget. Rather than pretend otherwise, every guide states when it was last checked and tells you to confirm anything time sensitive before you set out. When a guide is revised we publish a new edition rather than quietly editing the old one.

A human always in the loop

We use research tools, including AI tools, to gather material, compare sources and spot contradictions. They are good at that and we are open about using them. What they do not do is decide. A person reads the sources, decides what goes in, cuts what cannot be stood behind, and signs off the guide before it is published.

No paid listings

Nobody pays to appear in a guide, and nobody can pay to be left out of one. We take no commission from hotels, schools, agents or tour operators mentioned in our titles. If that ever changes for a particular product, it will be stated on the page before you buy, in plain words.

Photographs

Images in our guides are either our own or used under a free licence, and every one carries its credit and licence in the back of the book.

Corrections

If you find something wrong, tell us through the contact page. We would rather be corrected than be wrong in the next edition, and we will say in the revision notes what changed.
